Climate and What to Pack

Since Latvia has a Humid Continental climate, it has seasonal changes throught the year. Latvia is also 50% covered by forests.

If you are going in the summer, the temperature usually goes up to around 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celcius). This is partly because of the Warm Gulf Stream, and partly because of Latvia's latitude. You should bring:

  • summer clothes like tanks and shorts (note however that Hawaiian shirts and flip-flops do set you apart as a tourist!)

  • a swimsuit

  • Sun-protective gear

  • comfy walking shoes

  • Umbrella

  • Weather can be surprising. Bring a light jacket just in case!

  • Other things depending on what you are planning to do

In the winter, temperatures can get as low as -4 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 degrees Celcius). Snow is also common. You should bring:

  • winter clothes like long-sleeve-shirts and pants.

  • winter attire like boots, scarves, gloves, hats, and several different kinds of jackets, etc.

  • Other things depending on what you are planning to do.
