If you meet someone, shake their hand, be friendly, and hold eye contact. However, DO NOT shake hands in the middle of a doorway! This is considered bad luck.
To introduce yourself, state your name and surname.
If you are visiting, you should remove your shoes at the host's door. They may give you cozy slippers to borrow!
Bring a gift for your host, like flowers for example.
In Latvia, presentation (how something looks) is very valued.
Latvians speak the Latvian language, however the Russian language is also common because when the Soviet Union took over Latvia, many Russian speaking people from the Soviet Union moved there and the government made it mandatory to learn the Russian language. In addition, people may also speak English, Ukrainian, and German.
